Auto Backup

What is Backup folder?

Compare It! supports automatic backup creation in specified folder.

Once you activate this feature and select a backup folder to use, Compare It! will copy each file to this folder before overwriting it. Since you will probably save the same file multiple times, it will be assigned new name each time, using the following rule:

filename.ext.YYYYMMDD-HHMMSS.N.ext

where

New: Note additional extension, added at the end of backup file name. In older versions file name ended with pane number (1 or 2). Added extension allows syntax highlighting to be used, as well as sorting by file type in file manager.

To prevent storing too many unused backup files, Compare It! will automatically delete files which are older than the number of days you specified in the General page of the Options dialog box.

Using relative path for backup

Instead of using single backup folder for all files, you may want to create backup subfolders in each folder, where your files are located. To do this, simply specify name of folder without path, like "Backup", instead of "C:\Backup".
