Quick Start

Compare It! is easy to use. This topic explains the basic steps.

Select two files.
You can do this in a number of ways:
- If you are using 2 panels file manager, you can run Compare It! by passing two file names as parameters. See Using Compare It! with File Manager for details.
- If you are using Windows Explorer, you can drag-and-drop files you want to compare to an open Compare It! window.
- You can select the files to compare in the Enhanced Open File Dialog Box by choosing File > Open.
After you select the files to compare, Compare It! performs the comparison and shows you the differences, side-by-side and color-coded.
To edit the files, switch on the Edit mode (by pressing F9).
Now you can modify your files, or merge them by differences. Try the ALT + ARROW (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) keyboard shortcuts to navigate through changes and copy changes from one file to the other.
