Additional file formats support

With Built-in converters Compare It! can handle a bunch of files formats. Here you will find description and tips for various files comparison.

Support for all additional formats can be toggled in Options > Converters settings page.

MS Word and MS Excel files;
PDF files: to compare PDF files you may need to download additional plug-in dll from our site. After downloading, simply unpack it to the folder where Compare It! is installed (usually C:\Program Files\Compare It!).

As with all converted files, you can not edit or merge .pdf files - file comparison is read only and your abilities are limited to reviewing changes.
MIF files (*). MIF (Makers Interchange Format) is a xml-based language used to describe an Adobe FrameMaker document in a text file. MIF is used to exchange information between FrameMaker and other applications. Since this format it text-based, it does not require any special processing. However multiple national characters beyond the scope of English letters are encoded so it becomes impossible to read it as plain text. Compare It! can decode such symbols to normal state for viewing, and encode it back during saving;
KOI8, CP866 (*) are just codepages used primary in Cyrillic texts;
\uXXXX (*) is a special encoding of Unicode characters in text files, used in some programming languages. This one is only available in Unicode version
IFilter is a system-wide protocol for extracting text from various file formats. Windows is using it for content indexing, as an example. If you are using some proprietary file formats, try searching for IFilter drivers for it. If you have MS Office installed, you can also try using this converter instead of built-in Word\Excel converters. Few other examples of public IFilters:
- FoxIt PDF IFilter
- MS hot fix for Office and HTML IFilters (requires XP SP2+)
- IFilter Explorer will show you installed IFilters. They also have IFilters for .hlp, .chm and few other formats
XML (*) Converter will normalize your xml files by reformatting and aligning, forcing quotes and empty tag usage.

(*) Converters with this mark can process files in both directions, that is it can convert file during loading, and later convert it back during saving. So while using these converters, you still have an ability to merge, edit and save files.
